Getting ready to pull the trigger

I have the dough ready and am getting ready to order a GT 500. Since there's not much season left in the Northeast, I am planning to research how and where to buy, and what options to get and order in the fall. I am leaning towards:

2008 Shelby GT 500, torch red convertible
I want the white over-the-top Le Mans stripes, even though it's a convertible
Black leather with red inserts interior
I think I'll pass on the Shaker and Nav and go aftermarket
I think I'll own it a while before modding it, probably go into the 600 HP range down the road

Any other (dis- or ) recommendations on options?

Thanks!
TC

Welcome to the site.

Sounds like you already know what you want, there are not a lot of other options available. If it were me, I would get the HID headlights.

Have fun shopping!

Re: Getting ready to pull the trigger

I would go with the Factory Shaker 500 Stereo. The 2008 models should come with an ipod Jack so you can play your ipod Music through your stereo. I would also opt to have the Lemans Stripes "Painted" on instead of paying $1,200.00 for the factory vinyl Stripes. The Factory uses a very cheap Vinyl for there Stripes. A great body shop can paint the stripes on for almost half that price. Congrats and getting a new Shelby, since you are in the Northeast, there are several Dealers near you selling Shelby's "AT" MSRP. Look for the Thread that has the list of them.
David.

Question Re: Getting ready to pull the trigger

Thanks for the advice. HID Headlamps sound good, and the painted stripe. I was surprised by the advice on the stereo. In my past experience, factory sound systems no matter how nice or how they're branded have been a POS and overpriced. My buddy has a Mustang with the Shaker in it, and the design with the separate amps, etc seemed hokey. I put an aftermarket radio/cd changer/amp/speakers in my Bronco and for under $1500 it sounded SICK. If I want to take my time deciding, is the Shaker a dealer option?

Particularly on the navigation system, anyone have any opinions? My wife has the Acura/Honda one and it is one of the best out there. Great touch screen and voice activated system, easy to use, good POI data. Through a car club up here I got to drive some Ferrari's, a Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, etc. The Acura nav was better than all of them, so we're a little spoiled.

Anyone ever put a kid's car seat in the back seat? Feasible?

Thank you all!
TC

Good question. I sat in the drivers seat of this 2007 convertible GT500 but can't remember what the back seat was like.

Does anyone know how the back seat of the convertible compares to the coupe?
Randall

Re: Getting ready to pull the trigger

You might want to order it with the ambiant interior lighting. It looks cool at night and without it these cars are kind of dark inside.

Getting ready to pull the trigger ME TOO. And ambiant lighting?

I'm in a similar position in Minnesota; heading towards fall so have time to compare/contrast deals & dealers.

I am curious if 500's are going at list price; Iv'e had a couple dealers tell me they'd consider selling the 08 GT for MSRP. Let us know what you find.

And can someone explain ambiant lighting? Being relatively new to the Ford deal, I'm not familiar with it. Thanks!

Scott / Minneapolis
