Hello Everyone!
Finally after a 21 Year Career and raising 5 Children I am FINALLY able to devote my time into the complete Restoration of #2714.
Living in N Ca, anyone aware of any Facilities that specialize in Shelby/Mustang Restos? I'm on the Coast side of Sac.
Robert

Great to hear Robert. Welcome to Shelby Forums!

I'm not sure what resources are available in your area but I know many members have had great experiences with various facilities/people that specialize in Shelby/Mustang restoration across the US.

There's also a wealth of knowledge within the membership of this site so please feel free to ask any specific questions and I'm sure you will find someone has an answer for you.
Randall

Welcome Robert. What year is #2714? (I assume a GT350 by your screen name) Also, can you post some before pictures so we can follow your progress on the restoration? Larry

Robert, is yours a '67 GT350? If so, I have a close relative #02751.

Re: 02714 New Member

Hey everyone:
You all know how to make an old Blue Oval Man feel Welcome.
#2714 is a 68 GT-350 that I purchased when I was 19 Years old.
My First Pony was a 1967 S code 2 dr htp that I purchased in 1967 from San Bruno Ford in Ca. Had them install a Shelby equipped 427 med riser, took off the GT emblems and "Baited" as many SS"S I could find. Any old timers that lived in the SF Bay Area during that time might remember a Green '67 Hdtp
tearing up the local Hot Spots and Drag Strips.
MCA had just started up in NorCal and that's when the Snake Bit! Had gone to many SCCA Races at Laguna Seca and was very familiar with Shelby Cars.
However that being said back then there was this Drag Racer vs Road Racer attitude and Shelby's were Road Cars.
My attitude changed when I had the chance to drive a Club Members '66 427 Cobra! I still remember the "rug burns" on my cheeks from sliding back in the seat! Anyone who has had the chance to drive one will tell you they are NOT easy to drive, like a Child taking their first steps your scared and thrilled at the same time!
Took my savings (about 2800) and off to S&C Ford where they had a Red 427 in the showroom. Had my Mother and Girlfriend with me (still living at home) negotiations were going well ,My Mother thought it was cute, right up until the Salesman STARTED IT UP!!! Being 19 Years old there was NO WAY I was going to get Financing without my Mothers help
But in retrospect I was much to young and reckless to have had that much RAW POWER and She probably saved my Life. After all I was a Teenager in SF during the Sixties and was prone to do some stupid things!
The refinements Shelby made in '68 from an out the door Road Racer to a more Iconic Status car led me to #2714. After my "melt down" the Salesman showed me a "returned" Candy Apple Red GT-350
Thus endeth the story , for now. I'll post the rest of the story later as there is a stark contrast between what I was told at the time and what I know now.
Thanks for letting an oldtimer relive some memories
Robert
