Re: New Member / Long Time Shelby Owner
Welcome Dan!
That's quite a list of cars you have owned. You'll have to share some photos with us. Randall

Re: New Member / Long Time Shelby Owner
![]() CSX2310, unrestored, much of its original paint is intact but was repaired in various places during the mid 1960s to early 1970s during its duty as daily driver for the owner. Original and very tired interior. Deviations from stock include • the 1967 versions of the S2MS Holley / S2MS COBRA lettered intake / steel fuel line in the Cobra Induction Kit sold as accessories by Shelby American. Falcon (? it has a white knob) choke cable hidden under dash. Purchased new from and installed by a Ford dealer for the owner in the old days. • "CS Shelby Blueprinted" racing distributor (Ford version and not Mallory). Purchased new from and installed by a Ford dealer for the in the old days, see above. • Koni shock absorbers in the early 1980s (to replace the totally wasted Spax ones on the car when I got it). • after-market "puller" engine cooling fan (I use to drive it in summer traffic a lot). • roadster aluminum oil pan (factory accessory – but kept the original steel pan and hardware). • 1964 vintage Lucas P700 head lamps (period aftermarket accessory) • front and rear anti-sway bar (factory accessories removed from other Cobras). • mid 1980s Hayden/Ford Motorsports engine oil cooler hidden in front of radiator (I use to run the open track events at Mid America. Mr. Peter Brock was the last person to run the car on Hallet.). • side out exhaust, original chrome plated tips, behind what is left of the original mufflers (rear exit pipes makes the rear anti-sway bar a problem). CSX2551, modified, run hard and modified to suit owner’s whims of the day. Major deviations from stock include • converted to pin drive wheels (mid 1980s). • 6˝ X 15 fronts and 7˝ X 15 rears six spoke magnesium Halibrand competition wheels, 1964 vintage. (Some 6˝ X 15 Phil Schmidt Engineering aluminum wheels are on order for safer driving.) • rounded fender flares (late 1970s). • full width roll bar (late 1970s). • drive shaft safety loop. • braced steering rack. • triangulated front control arms. • side exhaust headers, similar to Belanger style (custom made late 1970s ??). • front and rear anti-sway bars (reproduction). • ex-works C6FE cylinder heads (being added during current engine build). • 1964 vintage COBRA Weber induction system, low serial number carburetors (being added during current engine build). • old style AVIAID “289 COBRA” oil pan (being added during current engine build).

Re: New Member / Long Time Shelby Owner
Mark,
I attended most of the Mid America events 1979-90 and got to two or three (can't remember anymore) of Mark Smith's events in the live stock barn in Jackson. Were you in Jackson the year Era Merit (think that is right) did the very long smokey donut cutting session in his Cobra for the TV crew? You don't see people doing stunts in original Cobras like that anymore.

Re: New Member / Long Time Shelby Owner
I agree,,times were much better....
Anytime Big money enters the picture...attitudes, and egos...change the moods, and emotions....of the people involved....too many expects, who believe everything they read... The money for these cars and parts sure have changed in 25 years.....Most of the people I knew then are still friends, even if I rarely see them... |
