Re: Hi!! Was from PITTSBURG!

Hi, Stories about Shelby. Wow--My first story . I was a day stocker at Brookshires grocery in Pittsburg During lunch I was reading a magazine with Mr Shelby's birthday story in it (I think it was his 65th) later that week my friend and co worker called for me to go the bread isle-- can you guess who was there? Mr Shelby was shopping at my store. I remembered the Magazine, went and got it off the shelf-- without paying for it-- and ask Mr Shelby to sign it. I still have it. And i did pay for it later. More stories to come-- also have photos..will post on our website..if that is cool? Thanks Red
P.S. Mr. Shelby was driving a 4x4 Toyota..for those in the know back then...lol

Re: Hi!! Was from PITTSBURG!

That must be the magazine with the Birthday Car in it. That is an amazing vehicle. Based on the '88 CSX-T, it was upgraded to include features that the production '89 CSX would have. The prototype Kaminari body kit was unique with their NACA ducts that the production CSX did not receive. The engine was unique in that it had a variable nozzle turbo like the Turbo IV engine but it also had the Lotus designed head of the Turbo III engines. I guess that makes it a Turbo III.5. Also very cool and unique was the Monroe designed cockpit adjustable suspension.

I wonder why the car was not kept in Carroll Shelby's personal collection? It was sold at the famous garage sale in the early 90's. The last I heard, the car had been restored and is with a collector in California.

I learned to drive (manual trans) in that blue 4x4 Toyota when I was 12 or 13.
