Lightbulb Photo Size Adjustments

Photo Size Adjustments

If you want to attach a single picture to your post, you have to "prepare" the picture, prior to uploading it. If the picture is not in compliance with our standards, you may experience the frustration of loosing everything you just typed when you hit "submit." The software will tell you the image is too large and erase your post, even when you hit the back button. Often digital pictures are saved at a pixel size that is way too big for typical web use. In order to change the size of your image, load the picture in your favorite photo program. Find 'edit' (or 'Image' in photoshop) on the top of your window. Select the 'edit image size' option or similar. A window will open showing you the size, like 1280x960. Another common size is 640x480. Change it to whatever size suits your purpose, but remember, you are limited as to the amount of disc space available at ShelbyForums.com, so the smaller the picture, the more you can upload. In some programs the height changes as you change the width, thus retaining the original proportions. In photoshop, there is a checkbox option to "Constrain Proportions" when resizing. If this option is not available in your program, enter a size yourself. 600x450 is a large picture and takes longer for a dial-up viewer to load, but it works. You may prefer to try 400x300 or 200x150.(the smaller the image size, the more you can store) Now save the image as xxxxx-medium.jpg or xxxxx-small.jpg, whatever applies. Remember where you saved the image and upload to ShelbyForums.com. Now you are ready to write your post and hit the browse button to attach a file.

Attention Netscape users:
After hitting browse, you have to change Files of Type on the buttom of the new window to 'All files' in order to see jpg's, gif's etc.
