Shelby to visit Road America

Shelby to visit Road America
Sheboygan Press staff

The winner of the first-ever June Sprints feature at Road America is scheduled to return to the site of that historic victory years ago.

Motorsports legend Carroll Shelby will serve as the Grand Marshal for this weekend’s 50th running of the Kohler/Sports Car Club of America Chicago Region June Sprints.

The event begins Thursday — a test day — and runs through Sunday at the Elkhart Lake racetrack.

Shelby, 82, who won a 152-mile feature during the 1956 June Sprints in a Ferrari, is scheduled to sign autographs on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Kohler display truck. Autograph fees will benefit the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation.

Gates open at 7 a.m. each day. Tickets, which include parking and paddock access, cost $10 on Thursday, $15 on Friday, $20 on Saturday and $25 on Sunday. Children 12 and under are free.

More than 350 drivers from the U.S., Canada and the Bahamas will compete in this year’s June Sprints, which features eight races comprised of 24 racing classes.
