67 GT350 Paxton cars???

Does anyone know how many 67 GT 350s came from the factory with a Paxton supercharger? Also another question related to early 67 Shelbys, what did the base of the antenna look like? Thanks in advance for any information!

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

Most were built in the 2100 through 2300 vin number area.

The antenna base is the same as a 67 Mustang, and, also put on where ever the dealership usually did (seems to vary state to state) . Either the front right fender, or the rear quarter.

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

According to the registry...32 67 shelbys had factory superchargers....27 had Factory Production Orders....4 had factory installed superchergers...1 test car #121

My factory paperwork dated 5/12/67 has most cars # around high 1600s and low 2300s..

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

I researched the 1997 registry and took notes on all the paxton cars..I take it as that just means that 27 cars received a factory production order for a cobra supercharger and 4 shelbys also received superchargers at the factory at some point resulting in 31 shelbys with factory installed superchargers..and the test car was a mule, but you don't know if it was sold with a supercharger after the factory was done beating it unless the owner can verify it but it had a supercharger on it at on for testing(listed as whereabouts unknown)...

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

Would it really matter if the car was sold without the supercharger after they were done ripping it to shreds? If it was a factory sc mule, then i would have to say that the car is an original "Factory" installed supercharger. I would say there were 28 Factory Supercharged cars and 4 or 3....kind of confused now, factory installed superchargers after the fact.....not much , but there is a difference.

5s010 was the factory mule for the paxton in 65, it more than likely was not sold with that paxton from the factory, but i believe the paxton would still belong on the car when it was restored.

Best Regards,
Vern

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

Something to consider is that the supercharger installation kit was in the trunk of the car as it left Shelby for most SC ordered cars and the dealer would complete the installation before delivery. A lot of Paxton units remained unsold and undelivered to Shelby to the disgust of Paxton who anticipated a huge amount to be sold on ordered cars in 66 and 67. That is how the stories were told twenty or so years ago when Paxton sold off a big chunk of old inventory. Most people opted for the bigblock in 67. I would bet a Nickel against a Dollar that Shelby had sold Paxton on the idea with them warehousing the units and Shelby only getting inventory when he needed it . That is my spin .

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

I tend to disagree....I wasn't there so I can say thats how they came, but I'm just going by the factory paperwork....back to the registry...27 came with Factory Production Orders.....4 came with factory installed blowers and the test mule...of the 4, one car is Tony Branda's #2148, according to the registry it does not have a FPO for a supercharger but states it is a factory installed supercharger...I have the Shelby inter-house correspondance which has #2148 as having the installation of the supercharger finished as well as 18 other shelbys listed for supercharger install..so that rules out the trunk theory and thats why I say there are 32 factory installed 67 GT350s...

The Paxton in the trunk is what I had thought for years based on info from others I thought were in the know. Just when we think we've got it figured out fresh info comes to light. Would you mind posting a scan of the Shelby inter-house correspondance to help myself and others understand your point of view? Thank you. Bob

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

Hey guys,

Were exactly in the registry does it say that only 4 had the supercharger "factory installed"?

So far, the only thing that i have found about the paxton for 67 short of reading the whole 67 section is on page 618 under the "1967 Shelby Options" section under "paxton supercharger". This paragraph states, "GT350 only; factory installed option. Factory invoices show 28 cars were equipped with Paxtone superchargers from the factory".

I just think some clarification is needed before this thread moves on.

Best Regards,
Vern

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

Alright guys.....Here what I base my OPINION on.....take it as you may, but I spent hours reading ALL the footnotes on EVERY 67 Shelby in the 97 Registry..I wrote notes on every car that had a "Factory Supercharger" and made a list...page 618 does state that 28 cars were equipped with Paxton Superchargers from the factory...You guys can read all the footnotes and make your own descision...

I list the car #......then FPO is Factory Production Order....Factory is Factory Installed...Note this does NOT mean only "Factory" cars were installed at the factory, as the correspondence show BOTH fpo and factory cars being complete at the Factory.....Shit I should have gotten paid for doing all this work

Here ya go:

121-testcar
145-factory
390-fpo
391-fpo
392-fpo
399-fpo
827-fpo

2304-fpo
2308-fpo
2309-factory
2310-fpo
2311-fpo
2354-fpo

You can double check the registry since you have all the numbers now as I did the hard part....and decide for yourself.....I say 32...page 618 says 28...footnotes say 32.....I don't want to post a scan of correspondence because Dave Matthews sent that to me with the understanding that only the owners of those cars should have them...maybe I'll block out the serial #s and post it because who wants to give ebay scammers ammo....

By all means leave the Shelby numbers out of the memo you have ,you listed them all here any way. If you mean the Ford VIN then no responsable person would expect you to post that. The tone of the wording in the document would help me understand the difference between installed at the Factory and your assumption that the others cars for some reason needed to be refered to in some other way but were also installed at Shelby instead of at the dealership. If you want to PM it to me . Thank you. Bob

Re: 67 GT350 Paxton cars???

You might check out the companion thread on the SAAC site were Dave Mathews post some interesting insights that there are even more paxton cars then what is covered in the registry . He also seems to have heard the same stories as I did on the units in the trunks.

SuperCJcat,

If you have a Marti Report, does that say that your car came with a supercharger? That would help me out really quickly!

Thanks
