1968 Gt350 4 speed

Can anyone tell me what the correct case number, Tailshaft number, and Rug number would be for a 1968 GT350? Car was built in May

Thanks

Teke

I don't have one here to visually verify but from memory it should be a RUG E2 with a C6 E tail. Can't recall the main case.

Re: 1968 Gt350 4 speed

Tim,

Does RF C8AR-7006-D sound right for the maincase? I don't recognize the C6 E for the tail. I'm no expert, but I have three small block Mustang toploaders and a lot of information on them. I thought the C4ZR and C4DR were the only tails that found their way into small block Mustangs, but I could easily be wrong.

Do those ID's sound right to you?

Josh

I'll go with the RUG-N, only because that's what is on their build sheets

Re: 1968 Gt350 4 speed

Well it looks like a Rug N was on an early build car.....and the Rug e2 is on the later build cars. I was hoping that someone with an original car could verify the actual numbers for me.

Thank you for all of the responses thus far on this topic

Pete, I think the N was in earlier cars. Josh, the C8 maincase would be correct on the 68 500s but I'm not sure on the 350s. Sit tight, I'll call a couple 4 spd owners (one early and one late) and see what they have.

Well, I hate being wrong. Have any paperwork showing RUG-Es? I have some build sheets from late May showing cars with RUG-Ns. I have never seen a build sheet with a RUG-E, of course, I only have about 250 sheets.

I hate being wrong too but the truth must be told. Well your record is still clean. That RUG E info is listed in a few sources including the registry and I have a note next to it that says "incorrect". I called a couple friends on with a 3rd week Dec 67 car and its RUG N. The other was a 2nd week April build and has a RUG N1. The April car has a C8AR B maincase, no info on tailshaft.

Re: 1968 Gt350 4 speed

Just to stir the pot some more I got a call from one of the emails I sent out. Its a 12/11/67 production and has an E2 tag. He can't verify it to be original and does not have a build sheet. I also checked the Jan 68 MPC which calls out the E2 as correct but thats for a J code 68 and not Shelby specific. The MPC also specs the main case as the C8AZ C part #, C8AR C casting #. The tailshaft shows as C5ZZ B part #, C4ZR B casting #. Bear in mind those are replacement part listings and could differ from assembly line parts. Maybe we can get some more 350 owners to chime in here.

Re: 1968 Gt350 4 speed

Yikes this is getting involved.....one more additional parts number request. What is the bellhousing number. I show a C8AA-6394-A which would be a an aluminum bell housing. Does everyone agree with this one?
