Re: 66-67 GT350 fuel filter adapter nut
Still trying to figure out what style fuel filter-to-carb adapter nut my 66 GT350 should have had originally and not having much luck. If any 66 owners out there still have your original adapter please take a look at the photo below and post what style you have and the Shelby VIN.
Style A I believe is an original and identical to the original on a friend's early non-carryover car. It's non-ferrous but not brass. Style B is a brass repop but identical to some I've seen on 67 GT350s, the nut "points" are more rounded than style A. I see style C (also brass) on many 66 GT350s but not sure if they are original or a replacement. I believe when Ford came out with the FG-14 filter which had smaller threads and connected directly to the 715 Holley a lot of 66 GT350 owners figured this was easier and chucked their original adapters (like mine!) and went with the FG-14. Any help greatly appreciated, Thanks! |

Re: 66-67 GT350 fuel filter adapter nut
Hi Dave,
Interesting observation on the adaptor bolt. My friend in Sweden and owner of 6S923 has the original 715 carb on his car with the adaptor bolt still there. Will ask him when I talk to him on the phone what type of material it is. /Texas Swede |

Re: 66-67 GT350 fuel filter adapter nut
Thanks Bo, that would be a big help. If he could get a photo that would be great. This seems to be one of those picky little details nobody knows much about. I posted the same question on the VMF and so far nobody over there has responded. I'm curious how the nut may have changed throughout 66 GT350 production and into the 67's. Dave.

Re: 66-67 GT350 fuel filter adapter nut
Hi Dave,
Sent you an email with the answer from my friend overseas. Two pictures are there as well and you can post them here if you like. His adaptor bolt is made of brass and is the original on his carburetor from 6S923. It was rebuilt and plated by the best guy, in my opinion, in the business, Joe Bunetic. /Texas Swede |

Re: 66-67 GT350 fuel filter adapter nut
Hi Bo,
Thanks, those pics are great! The 1st two thumbnail pics below are from Bo's friend who owns 6S923 and the third one is the original from 6S407. Both sure look like Syle "A" in my original pic, still trying to figure out the brass and/or plating thing. Dave |

Re: 66-67 GT350 fuel filter adapter nut
Not worth much perhaps but an observation.
I have seen quite a few "restored" Holley carburetors for various 1960s-1970 Fords, including List-3259 and List-3259-1 models, that have had everything zinc/zinc dichromated coated. This includes parts that were black oxide, bright zinc, and or natural originally. I do not know who is doing this work but I "fixed" a List-3255 carburetor for an owner that had everything metal coated this way, including all the brass parts except the needle and seat covers. The carburetor was supposed to be restored but it was really just made pretty; it had many problems and the secondaries wouldn't even open. I wonder if the fittings described as like the brass part but looks like something else falls into this "make pretty" catagory and are really brass underneath.

Re: 66-67 GT350 fuel filter adapter nut
Interesting theory Dan. But the pic above showing the original adapter from 6S407 has me wondering what the material they are made of really is. You can clearly see where the plating has worn away and the underlying metal has a silver appearance. This matches the small area where I removed the plating from the Style A adapter shown in my original photo. Could it still be brass but with a higher zinc content so it appears more silver in color than gold?
