1970 GT 350 Give away car??

Look at this auction and tell me what you all think of this??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Shelb...44747989QQrdZ1

I have been involved in the Shelby hobby and known Carroll for almost 30 years and one thing I know - He does/did not give away cars!!

The buyer of this car e mailed me and I advised him (strongly) to hire Vince at SAAC to personally go and inspect the car and valadate the documention.

If Shelby, did, in fact, give this car away (as proported by the documetion) it would be a first.

What do you all think????

I thought he has giving cars away to family members and friends. Didn’t he give some of the 66 convertible continuation cars to family?

Re: 1970 GT 350 Give away car??

That would be a Randall question - I have no direct knowledge of that - What I do know is that I have never seen paperwork like this guy (seller) has and I know that Shelby never gave away anything back in the 1960's -

If this paperwork is true, it would be a first

PS and BTW -

NOTHING about this in the registry

Hmmmmmmm..................

Re: 1970 GT 350 Give away car??

Liska just e mailed me back - The car IS NOT the first production 1970 Shelby (as advertised) and he says the documents look odd because of date problems, etc.

I know the buyer and I gave him a "heads up" and advised him to contact Vince, directly, and hire him to go and inspect the documents and he (the buyer) said "no" I am o.k. with what has been given to me by this DEALER!!!

He will be o.k. with it until he tries to go and re-sell it and the next guy hires and independant 3rd party to verify all the claims that this DEALER put out

He paid way over 100k

Ouch!!!!!

I don't know anything about this car but to answer your question, yes, he did give a 66 convertible continuation car to each of his three children. These cars were built in the early 1980's. The costs were covered by the sale of the other 66 convertible continuation cars built at the same time.

Weren't the majority of the original '66 GT-350 convertibles given away as well? I seem to remember a story about a secretary getting one, and a couple of other execs maybe?

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you. I have heard those same things but I've never looked into it or asked. Maybe somebody else can inform us??
