GT500 block

I have an early 68 GT500 when I pulled the engine it has the correct heads but the block was a 428CJ block. I thought the 68 GT500 used the Police intercepter engine. I didn't see any # on the block but I do belive it is the original block. Does anyone know what is correct for the 68 GT500.

when was the Car built and what is the date code on the Block? Vin #'s can be found at the top of the Block on driver side. Sometimes. they were not always stamped.

What made you determine it is a Cobra Jet block? What is the date code on the block and what is the date your car was built?

The block has webed mains.

As long as the date code on the block is earlier than the build date of the car, the block would be correct for the car.

The date code on the block is 8A11 so I think that is Jan 11 68 ???
The build date on the car is unknown right now.

I suspect it's not a CJ block, but has CJ features. You do know of course, Jan 11th is Carroll Shelby's birthday?

Wow, very enteresting, my car was also built 1-11-68, But the marti report says it was built 1-29-68 18 days behind scheudle. [ ? ]---S.

My block date is Jan 11 68, I'll have to go out in the garage to find out when the car was built. Seaweed, is your a GT500 and does it have smog?

My car does not have smog, but it came with the thermactor smog I believe, because of the plugs that are in the heads.---S.

Thanks Seaweed, I was trying to find out if my car was supposed to have it on.
I heard that some dealers removed them and installed the plugs, if smog was not required in there area and because some buyers though it took horsepower away. Looks like I should look for a smog pump.

My GT500 has a 3-11-68 build date. Not sure about the block. No smog on mine. Best everyone can remember it did not have one on it from the factory. Just the plugs.
